AMD Ryzen 3rd Generation processors have been making laps around Intel’s 9th Generation CPUs and its strange why more gaming PCs don’t offer them as a configuration option, but here we are with HP’s brand new Pavilion Gaming Desktop.
Like HP’s Pavilion Gaming Laptop lineup, this new green-tinged gaming PC is more budget oriented and features a less ostentatious design than its Omen lineup. Still you can pack a lot of power into these machines including 3000-series Ryzen processors with up to eight-cores (or Intel Core i7-9700 on the base model).
Meanwhile, GPU options start with a Nvidia GTX 1660 Ti, which users can scale up to a Nvidia RTX 2070 Super or RTX 2060 Super. This base model HP Pavilion Gaming Desktop also comes with a 16GB of RAM, plus a 256GB SSD and 2TB hard drive.
I’ve asked HP whether the pricing for this standard configuration is the same as the Pavilion Gaming Desktop $699 starting price and will update this post when I hear back. I can however confirm that this gaming PC releases later this month.
Fully Upgraded
HP has also given its 15-inch Pavilion Gaming Laptop a complete overhaul, creating a thinner, lighter notebook with better cooling.
Whereas previous Pavilion Gaming Laptops were just a regular Pavilion notebook given a black and green paint job, this latest model features a distinctly angular design that’s more in line with HP’s premium Omen brand. Those etched lines aren’t just for looks either, as the new Pavilion Gaming Laptop is a little thinner by 20mm and shorter by a single millimeter.
More importantly, the size bezels on this gaming laptop have been heavily reduced from 16.26mm to 6.4mm—though it still has the usual fat chins seen on most HP devices. On the back and bottom of the machine, HP has also increased the exhaust and intake areas while adding 28% larger heat pipe to help increase cooling.
All of the extra ventilation is necessary as the HP Pavilion Gaming Laptop is a much more impressive machine that can come with either Ryzen 5 or Ryzen 7 processors and up to Nvidia GeForce GTX 1660 Ti Max-Q graphics. That all powers the notebooks new 1080p 144Hz display, which is another improvement over the old Full HD 60Hz display.
Arriving this September, the base model HP Pavilion Gaming Laptop starts at $799 with a AMD Ryzen 5 3550 CPU, Nvdiia GTX 1050 (3GB GDDR5), 8GB of RAM, and 512GB SSD.
