Thousands return Christmas gifts at local shopping centers

The presents are unwrapped and now it’s time for the least fun part- returns!

This year, shoppers are expected to return up to $95 billion worth of holiday purchases, according to B Stock Solutions, an online tracking company.

It’s definitely happening at stores in the Valley.

“I’m returning a few things like a backpack and a jacket,” said one man at Academy.

Online Retail Platform Oracle says 77% of consumers plan to return some of their gifts, with the majority of returns happening on Thursday.

“We have a great relationship, me and my wife. She buys, I return. So, today is my day,” said another shopper.

With the mall back open, the staff at La Plaza Mall says they’re ready.

“That’s something we prepare for the entire year, because we know we’re going to have additional shoppers in the area,” said Isabel Rodriguez, Marketing Director for La Plaza Mall. “The day after Christmas is when we see all those people take advantage of after Christmas sales.”

To exchange gifts, keep the tags on and have your receipt with you.

Another tip is to keep your packaging in its original state so you’re not charged a restocking fee and comb through the return details ahead of time to make the process go as quick as possible.
