Four to eight inches of snow are expected across Connecticut as two weather systems come together Tuesday and Wednesday.
The National Weather Service issued a winter storm watch Monday afternoon for Tuesday afternoon into Wednesday afternoon.
The most severe snow is expected in the state’s northwestern section, where accumulations should range from 4 to 8 inches, the National Weather Service said late Monday afternoon. The outlook is for 5 to 7 inches in Hartford, Tolland and Windham counties.
“Heavy snow possible. Plan on difficult travel conditions,” its advisory stated.
“It’s a combination system,” said Kim Buttrick, a National Weather Service meteorologist in Taunton, Mass. “We have a low pressure that’s going to be moving east from the Great Lakes. That’s on Tuesday. That will be overshadowed by a coastal low that’ll be moving off the mid-Atlantic coast and cutting northeast.”
The first snow to fall will be from the Great Lakes storm, and the snow on Wednesday afternoon will be from the coastal system, Buttrick said.
Temperatures will be seasonal both days with highs in the low 30s. But overnight lows Wednesday and Thursday are expected to dip into the low and mid teens. The National Weather Service is projecting a warmer weekend, with the possibility of a Sunday high temperature in the upper 40s.
